I'm planning to take my kid catfishing at squaw creek on Saturday. Can one of the experts please recommend which part of the lake to fish? Does anyone know where the Mr Whiskers guy go? I'm don't want to steal anyone's secret spots but any general information would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Jason

Go to the island straight out of the launch, if you have some soured grain you'll be on them in no time.

The catfish guides fish several locations. Most of the catfish anglers use pontoon boats, so look for those. The island is probably the best place to start. Catfish can be found in all areas of the lake, but temperature is a major factor some of the time. If you aren’t catching anything then change locations. Take some earthworms and you may catch some tilapia. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Thank you very much again. I really appreciate it. You pay the $30 and I bet 90% of the guys are fishing for bass and I think there are plenty of catfish to go around especially since the lake has been closed for years. It's nice to start in a good spot and have a chance to start catching catfish quickly

We did great. We almost caught 2 limits. Thank you very much Osborn and The Duke for the info. Towards the end, I switched to earthworms to catch tilapia but the catfish hammered the earthworms too.

I’m glad you did well. I haven’t found the tilapia either this year. Those pesky catfish are hungry. roflmao

Ok someone educate me. What is the deal with this lake? Is fishing that good that people pay $30 just to launch their boat? Obviously elvisp_buc had a very good day when he went but is this the norm?

It is a very reliable lake in the winter for bass and catfish numbers. If you just want to catch something it is a good place to go.

The lake was over run with bass fisherman every weekend doing tournaments so the launch fee was upped for the cash. I think boats without motors launch free.

This is the furthest thing from the truth. The lake has always charged a gate fee. (Before it closed due to 9/11 and when it reopened jus to close down again due to COVID). Even fishing from the bank closes $5 a person. Yaks still pay to launch as well.

The fee’s collected go to running to park and personnel. They only allow certain number of boats on the water each day

Yes there are a lot of bass tournaments there, but its still first come first serve. And if your catfishing where the bass fishermen are, your not in the right areas.

It's a solid take a kid fishing lake, you're going to get lots of action and not work super hard for it. If you can't catch 1 fish on this lake you might want to reevaluate being a fisherman. Now you're not going to hook into a ton of big fish but you will have some solid eaters.

True about the limited number of boats allowed on the water each day and before 9/11 the lake was over run with bass tournaments. The reason they now limit the numbers of boats on the lake today. The fees collected must pay for some really high dollar park personnel! $30. a boat ought to cover a bunch of them. Catfishing where the bass fisherman are is not the point, getting a boat on the water is. Those tournaments eat up a lot of the limited number of boats allowed on the lake. Before 9/11 the line to launch on the weekends was incredible.

They’ve always limited the number of boats on the lake. Back in the 80’s the line started around 3am, they only let 225 boats on the water, at least now you can make a reservation on line and don’t have to sit on the side of the road in the dark for 3-4 hours waiting on the gate to open. Boat launch fee on Eagle Mountian is $20 and not nearly as good fishing.
