Has anyone made a claim for items damaged on their boat? I was clever and cracked the screen on my graph with a crank bait and Lowrance want over $1000 to exchange the unit so was thinking about making a claim. Looking for constructive input other than don't hit your graph with a bait.

I believe my deductible is $500 but the wife is concerned about insurance rates going up.

I would check your personal property limit and deductible as well. I believe that is what it would fall under(as opposed to being damage to the hull or motor).

not sure saving $500 is worth the tick on your policy

Call around to other Lowrance dealers to see if they can service (assuming it is out of warranty). If the warranty is still valid, you're probably stuck dealing with Lowrance directly.

If it’s a 16” Carbon, they probably won’t give you much for it due to its age. A 16” live might be worth claiming and a 8616 might be worth claiming.

Its a 16 inch HDS live, it's out of warranty so best Lowrance will do is an exchange for $1050 or something like that. I called a few places that do graph repairs but they don't have the parts (Lowrance will not sell the parts) so you have to go through Lowrance. Always spoke highly of them but this policy is leaving a very bad taste in the mouth.

I understand their policy and you aren’t the first to hate it, but do remember, they aren’t the reason why your graph broke. Sometimes accountability is a factor, I know you won’t like that answer, but feel grateful that they offered you something. My You can ask your insurance co without filing a claim and see what they say your options are.

I am not upset at them about the graph being broke, I take full responsibility for that. Accidents do happen and the fact that they have not released parts or offer an actual repair rather than replacement is disgusting. They have done that to take more money from fisherman rather than backing and helping those that have purchased their products. If I ever replace the graphs on my boat I will likely not be using Lowrance again purely because of this policy.

Hummingbird is the only one that repairs graphs. Neither Garmin or Lowrance will fix them, so when the time comes, you get 1 choice. Hummingbird makes nice equipment though, I was interested in their mega 360 for awhile.

I made a claim on my Garmin 8612 when I dropped it and broke the graph. Insurance paid full price minus my deductable. I only sent photos to insurance company and they paid without any further questions. I have Travlers insurance
