Headed to Denton later this week to get my baby girl (?) registered and oriented for college...and I'll probably be up there from time to time over the next few years.

Anybody got suggestions ? I am interested in everything from dives to fancy places, as long as its not Applebees/Chilis/same old [censored]....THANKS

I can recommend.....

High end dining = Hannah's (Great food with imaginative menu. Excellant service and a nice patio area to enjoy an after dinner cigar.)

Burgers, drinks and locals = Sweetwater Grill (A local hangout run by a friend of mine. Service can be spotty at times but everything else is allways spot on.)

Bakery = Ravlin (Another friend owns this one. Get there early for the best selection. Leave your diet at home.)

Thai = Sweet Basil (Best Thai in the county. A little drafty in the winter.)

Tex-Mex = El Matadoer or La Mechanica in Lake Dallas. (La Mechanica is a great little hole-in-the-wall on the interstate.)

Steaks = Ranchman's in Ponder. (World famous and worth the drive.)

Cajun = Frillys (Didn't do my last bit of Crawfish to well the last time I was there but they have good Po' Boys and Etouffe.

Italian = Giuseppe's (Allways great service, food is consistantlt good.)

Subs = New York Subs (multiple locations)

Places I won't ever go to again due to bad food, service, or too many bad health inspection scores.

Red Pepper's (I used to love this place and was friends with the owners but too many bad health scores)

El Gaupo's (Lame food and terrible service every time I tried it.)

I agree with the first two as both are very good. I disagree big time with Giuseppe,s over priced and very small portions, new York Subs is the worst sub shops I have ever been in. Go to Genti's for Italian and heck Subway is far better than New York. For cajun go to Three Finns as it has the same menu as Pappadeaux's and the owner used to work as a chef for Pappadeaux's. Good bar ares to. The Loophole and Hooligans have great bar food also.

Has anyone tried Master Grill, the fairly new churrascaria?

I am scoping out waitressing possibilities starting in August. I had never heard of Hannah's, that sounds really good!

Hannah's is one of the best in Denton. They used to be on the square but now they are a block off the square. I would think you could make some good money there.

Sorry to be so long reporting back. We tried Frilly's one night and Hannah's the next. I really liked Frilly's, everything from the food to the laid-back atmosphere. It didn't impress the family as much but they're not as into Cajun type food as I am.

Hannah's was a real treat - expensive enough that I couldn't eat there all the time but the menu, food and service were top-drawer. Overall, probably rates in the top 5 restaurants I've been to in the last five years.

Try the Asi Tuna Burger at Hannah's (lunch only). It is one of the best Tuna sandwiches I've ever tried.

Greg and Veronica Strange own Three Fins. Very good place. They also own Frilly's so you will see some of the same items on the menu.

Sushi - Now We're Talking! There is a new world class Sushi Bar in town. It is one block north of the square. It is very small, and he's still building onto the restaurant. But the food is unbelievable! They even have Blue Fin Tuna on the Menu! I've eaten sushi all over North America, and this is as good as I've ever had. Keiichi's 940-230-3410. Kei is the Sushi Chef/owner. I just can't say enough about this place. We were absolutely blown away by it's quality the first time we ate there.

For my money I like the Texas Roadhouse. There pretty and resonably priced.
