I just got off of the phone with a friend (State Rep) and he said State is in negotiations to possibly buy the part (the park) or all of the lake. The one thing he said is all the of the phone calls and emails are helping. Please email or call your State Representative and let the know how you feel and it. There have a lot of high-level meetings going on about Fairfield State park.

Hopefully the State of Texas is not too late to the game.

I fear they are. It's a shame these conversations waited until the bitter end. Not only could the State Park have been saved, but Fairfiled lake could have also been part of a plan to build actual reliable power. The old powerplant site could have been repurposed for a new gas power plant that is horribly needed in East Texas. The private financing does not exist for companies to build new power plants. The State will have to play a role in getting Texas out of the energy hole we have created. It's not like there is an over abundance of places to build power plants these days. The transfer lines are already in place. Sure there would have to be more cleanup of the old site, but that will have to happen no matter what. . The state owning this lake just makes to much sense for alot of reasons.

I hope the state doesn't lose the land the current park footprint is on, it would be fantastic it they could buy the entire property around the lake.

You don't need a several thousand acre lake as a cooling reservoir anymore with the changes in gas fired plant technology, now if they decided to build nuclear it may be a different story.

Too bad Monticello doesn't have a real state park on it.

Let's start a petition to build one or create a "satellite" to the Bob-Sandlin Park.
