I was going back through the water data for Texas website and combed through the water levels recorded at Fork since 1990.

It looks like the only time it has been lower than it was this past year (395.37 on 8/1/22) was back on 12/3/2012 where they recorded a level of 395.26.

My question, how was this fishing post 12/2012? How long did it take to recover and were there any “better than most” time period after that 12/2012 time frame?

Many have spoke on how great it was after the water came back.
Unfortunately for me I found it to be just the opposite.
I don’t own any fishing jerseys or have a wrapped boat.
But, being a bank beater I found that fish never came back into some of the areas I previously had fished.
Once again, I’m no pro….

I remember this about 2-3 years post water back up, I could catch limit after limit of
8-10" bass on a small square bill up shallow.

My 5 bas bags weighed 2.6Lbs!

The water has come back about a foot so far and at my place, all that growth has turned into a slimy mess. I wish instead of just encouraging residents to let the weeds grow knowing that it wont stay after the water came back that they had planted something that would live.

It would be awesome if that lake had some cypress trees.

Fishing was really good after the last drought when lots of vegetation on the shorelines grew up. Should be again.

A lot of the "experts" on and around Fork say the fish population just isn't what it used to be and there is some data that supports their claims.

the water didn't come back up until the winter of 14-15. And it came up pretty fast too. This time it was only down for about one year.
The other time lots of trees grew on the banks that created lots of small stumps when the trees died which added to the overall success when it came up.
From the records of the Lake Fork Anglers Bass Fishing Club the fishing was pretty darn good and in 16-17-18 & 19 there were lots of "overs" caught in the big tournaments.

Last year 2022 even though the numbers of overs was fairly normal the sizes have diminished. The fishing all of last fall and even into February has really sucked for the bank beaters.
Perhaps with the lake now just a couple of feet down it will improve.

I believe all that "grass" will die fast and suck the o2 out of the shallows for a while...it's just dead organic material

What stopped you? I've always wondered why people with dry docks aren't out there with a back hoe and planting willows or cypress trees along the first few feet of the dry bank

It seems most people cannot think for themselves, need someone else to tell them what direction to go
