My customers have taken many over 10 lbs and up to 12.3 from beds and we have hooked up with several bigger than that.
We Had one hooked up in 92 that I thought would have beat the current State Record.
I think Richard McCarty had a 14 plus from a bed.
Dennis Canada had his 15 plus from a bed.
Now if you can read the fish and know what it takes to catch him and understand the spawn process then it should never take more than a few minutes.
When teaching customers sometimes you have to crawl before you walk.
Being accurate and quite is key. If you are off by a inch you can be there all day.
Customers struggle with this and get frustrated . I understand . I am just trying to make you better and get a understanding of what they are doing.
You can learn a lot about how a fish reacts to a bait by watching them. . +1

I think so.
A review of records shows you that very rarely, very rare are truly big fish taken off beds. You dont see those big fish on beds. They spawn deeper, earlier and in places you are not looking.
Not sure why guys get so spun up about flipping at a bass they can see on a bed for 3 hours just to land the little male right away and then then spend hours messing with the 3lb female...maybe eventually she bites it, maybe not.
What you think?
I think you must have checked the wrong records. If all you can catch sight fishing is 3lbers then you are not doing it right. Exactly. I love watching bed fish react to my bait.

Gonna take 16.5 to-get solid in top 20 like I know we want. Might as well go for a 19-20lber-what the heck!

Fishing during the spawn is usually awesome. You can pretty much fish to whatever strength you have, and catch them in pre-spawn, spawn, and post-spawn patterns
Bed fishing is not much fun after catching one.
Fishing during the spawn does not necessarily mean bed fishing.

I love watching the bass react as well. My biggest off a bed is 6lbs (hooked a 10+ but didn't get it to the boat). "Big" is relative to each angler I guess but if you tell me I can bed fish for 4+ pounders all day I can promise my heart would be racing all day and I would have a blast. Nothing better in my opinion

I would rather catch 300 schooling 2lb bass in a few hours than spend 2hrs to catch one 3lber that has been caught 16354384640684 times lol

I make it point to not bed fish when I am just fun fishing. I do not want to interrupt the bass from making more bass for the fun of yanking one out of the water. I will fish beds when fishing for money, but I will not sit on any beds for any length of time. Which in turn makes me not being a very good bed fisherman, you need to finesse them into biting or just get them mad at your lure. I have some friends that can catch them on a regular base. Me... it's not my go to pattern that much. It's there, but I am more running and gunning with lipless cranks during that time.

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish... Personal Best: 11.62 lbs

I fished an ABA tournament as a non boater on Palestine in 2021 and we fished for bedded fish. It was the first time I'd really gone after bedded fish all out and really learned a lot about how to catch them and how to identify the beds. My boater had a limit and almost every fish he caught had been on a cull tag at some point. That just makes me wonder how much we do actually interfere with the spring spawn. I figure if they get pulled off an active bed and put in a livewell for most of a tournament the perch are probably eating their eggs. It also amazed me that if these fish had been caught and released from a release boat somewhere else that they found their way back to their beds.

We shared a place on Lake Fork from about 1986 to 2000. I enjoyed bed fishing the first few years but after that would much prefer pre or post spawn. Saw it all including the ones that show up with elevated platforms mounted on the front of their boats so they can spot the beds easier. For myself just will not go out of my way to bed fish anymore.
