Can someone help me with decision on Garmin unit for forward facing sonar - looking at 1242 or 8612.
Transducer GLS10 LV34 XDCR ?
Mostly recreational bass fisherman - occasional tourney - on Sam Rayburn.
Much thanks !

I would book a trip with Josh Jones and take notes; putting exactly what he recommends on your boat.

Plenty of good FFS guides out there that wonโt charge you 2k!!! Find someone else imho and learn as well as get to catch some fish instead of watching JJ fish.

No...I dont mean careful in contacting Josh Jones.....I was telling the poster who suggesting contacting JJ to be careful. This forum has a lot of insecure members who are triggered by any mention of his name.

8612 has more pixels for a clearer and more detailed picture. Also more expensive

Your best contact for Josh is Face Book. He will tell you what to purchase. Then after you use it for awhile; it will be your decision to invest $2K in learning how to use it properly. If you are not going to target big bass every trip, don't spend the money with Josh. Pick a knowledgeable guide.

I would get the 1222 with the LVS 34. I do livescope trips on Fork and surrounding lakes. I can show you how to dial in your settings and catch fish with it. Iโd be happy to help.

LVS34 and the biggest screen you can afford. No need to get the XD. As others have mentioned I'd also highly recommend getting a guide who specializes in FFS to shorten your learning curve. It is not easy, and you want to avoid having a 4,000 dollar set up that looks like gibberish to you.

1222 is not touch screen which I prefer. I would go 102sv in 10โ or the 122sv 12โ. Those are units without the transducer
