Looks like fun. I had neck surgery a few weeks ago and have to wear neck brace for two more weeks. Hope to get on a bank to fish soon. Keep the good or bad reports coming in.

I fished Irwin bridge this evening. I caught 12. Same sized, in the 9 to 11 inch range. One nice one around 12.5 inches. I caught all of them below the bridge. I tried 3 spots downstream but had no luck. The water continues to get clearer and the fish more picky. I caught most of them on a size 10 Barfish Briminator.

They really turned on in the waning light, around 5:50 pm. I caught 4 in a row and had a 5th one break me off in the trees. I called it a day and left them biting.

The weatherman is projecting over an inch of rain in the Yegua watershed tomorrow. That should be enough to really get the run going.

The heaviest bands of rain are moving through the Yegua watershed. The last several heavy rainfalls have all been east of the watershed. Keep the rain dance going, it's working

Was going thru some old tackle boxes,found old pack of yellow 1/32th oz. crappie jigs And pics of fish from last trip to Irwin Bridge, last year

I wasn't sure there would be a run up the Yegua this year due to low lake. It reads to be 4-1/2 feet below normal pool as of today. But from the reports it looks like the fish are making it upstream.
Anyhow, I live in part of the Yegua water shed and we have received some awesome rain today. My backyard looks like a lake, so there should be some good run off going down the Yegua soon.
Hope it brings up a lot of fish.

For what it's worth, in the northern part of lake Summerville water shed, we have received 2-1/4 inches this morning and there is still a steady light drizzle. It takes about 24 hours for all of this run off to reach Irwin bridge. Anything we receive within the next five weeks will continue to improve this year's spawn up the Yegua creek. I look forward to reading the reports to come, there should be an improvement in numbers as well as size.

I fished there (Lake Texana) a couple weeks back. Water temp was 52 if i remember right) Back before the drought the White bass run was supposed to be really good. After the drought though I think the population really dropped off. That being said I think Texana should still have a decent run. The only question is when and up which river. The Navidad or Sandy Creek or both?

I plan on trying it out a few times between now and the end of February if I stumble on anything I will let you know.

Thanks for chiming in Hungryboy. I'd be interested in learning more myself. It's less than 2 hours from my house so maybe I can come do some searching with you. I love fishing new places.

Will you be bank fishing or kayaking?

We hit the Navidad for a short time Saturday and had a few hits (spinning tackle) but didn't catch anything. However there were several other boats we ran across with all the fancy electronics that said they were seeing a ton of fish everywhere but only caught a few. Sounds good enough to me to give it another go when it warms up just a little.

I also fish the Angelina at Nacogdoches and have heard reports they are seeing fish - mainly catching males but they are moving up the rivers....

Just my 2cents. Many years ago I inquired about Texana, the “Big Chocolate Lake.” Ended up private messaging with another forum member but can’t find it in my messages and to my best recollection recall very little bank access and needing a boat. I think if you launch at 59 that is a good place to start and head up Navidad River.While camping there in the SP I have caught whites from the bank in the main lake so there are definetkt WB in there. Also lots of huge gators.

I checked on Irwin Bridge this evening. The Trailway area is closed until Friday at 2 PM so I couldn't go to Newman's bottom. USGS water data shows a 0.5 ft rise in the Middle Yegua and a 3.0 ft rise in the East Yegua. Levels are still rising and a good strong current moving through. Not a flood but plenty of muddy water for the fish to follow upstream, as Doug would say.

Looks good Jmoe. The lake is still a little.over four feet low, but every rain we receive will only improve the water conditions from here on out. That muddy water flow will bring up some fish.
