We now have an updated on Lake Fairfield (although not good for fisherman).

What about Monticello? Anyone hear of any plans for that lake? confused 3

I say use some of the billions the state of Texas has in surplus and blow the dam between Monticello and Sandlin. They are at the same level now anyway. Might as well give fisherman (and I guess pleasure boaters) access to Monticello.

The lake is not owned by the state or any public entity, not sure you can just "blow the dam", it's prob a little more complicated.

Plus the lake is overrun with sandbass and spots now

It depends on who actually owns the Dam weather or not it can be blown, dug out or whatever. The land around the lake may be private, but the water & resources in the lake belong to the State of Texas.

I bet since the lake is actually for sale, it's not owned by the state. I am not sure where to find that out

The Titus County Appraisal district website shows that Luminant Generating Co. LLC owns all the parcels.
Here is a link to the map. You can see the parcels and click on them and it shows the parcel info and owner.

I knew that, but as usual someone on TFF always "knows more"

Looking at that map I just wonder if the boat ramp access area could be bought? The water is public so if the state owned that piece of property we'd be back in business. If I remember correctly its not that big a piece of land. Maybe 5 acres???

I asked the same thing years ago when this headache started.
That piece of land also shares a ramp with Bob Sandlin, so it made sense to me at the time that the state should own that land at least for Bob Sandlin access.

If they didn't want to cut the dam like they did with Lake Dallas, you could think an easement or "public space" aquisition wouldn't be that hard for the sliver of land between Monti and Sandlin in Monticello Cove. Dig that out and dredge a channel like we have between the Tyler Lakes!

Heck yeah, if I won that would definitely be on my list of purchases. Wouldn't that be cool.

I've always wondered, why couldn't they just take the metal gates out and let that be where the lakes connect, I think they are the type that raise up and the water flows underneath them, seems like that would be the most cost effective way to connect them, not sure how far down in the water the concrete is where the gates sit when they are closed.

Then it would just become another big cove on Sandlin. A big part of what made Monti was the power plant. Since that's gone and the fish in Monti are on a regular lake growth cycle, Monti is on its way to becoming just another lake in Texas, infested with spots and sand bass. Just my opinion.
