I'm NE of Deer Park maybe 100 miles or so as the crow flies. Storms are gone here.
Check the radar for Texas.

Guess who was in the thick middle of a Chevron refinery in Pasadena?
Talk about no place to hide.

Yeah my buddy in Pasedena had his garage door ripped to shreds and some roof damage-Some of his neighbors weren’t as fortunate.

The Chevron plant was the second big set of flares in the video. When you're down in the middle of all of this, working on a stupid fuel truck, and the sirens go off, there's just no place to hide that doesn't look like a place they'll just find a grease spot. I have no idea why all of the plants are flaring that much, there's probably a good reason, just don't know.

A lot of times they flare in bad weather burning off "bad" stuff as there is no air quality monitoring going on and the weather dissipates emissions.
Saw it all the time when I was growing up and lived in Port Neches. We could see the flares out at Texaco (Motiva) and Gulf/Chevron/ Valero in Port Arthur 15 miles away when there was weather around.
In the case in the video you showed I'd bet they did some emergency shutdowns of units because of the weather. The incoming product has to go somewhere so they flare it off.

I was going west on I-10 in Katy around 11:00 am and it was raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock it continued heavy until 5 miles outside of Sealy at 11:45 then it really started to rain, it slowed traffic to around 20 mph or less I turned off I-10 onto hwy 36 in Sealy which mostly flooded. I believe that was the cell that made it down there to Pasadena and Deer Park. That was a little scary to drive through.
