I picked up a Crystal River 8'0" (2.44m) #6/7 Fly line rod It handles all of the BG fine and Got a few bass with it. What I would like to know is what is the diff weight for the rods and is a lower # like a light action and higher # like a med hev. Can some one please tell all of us who do not know?
Thanks
John

Kind of, bigger rods equal bigger lines and let you throw bigger flies. A lot like a heavy action rod will throw a 2 oz slab and an ultralight will probably break doing it. With fly fishing you'll just get to a point where the fly is too big to cast and have fun get a bigger rod.

I always throw the lightest rod I can get away with for the flies I'm chunking.

Its not too big for them. With fly rods the problem is a rod/line being too small to throw a fly, not too small. For instance a big old bass bug or popper, like on a 2/0 hook, might be marginally too big for your 6/7 to cast. Might be kinda ugly but could be done.

Since you are casting the line not the lure, the lure needs to be small enough that it does not interfere with the loop of the line as its cast.

Cool thanks for the info, that helps a lot. I tie my own flies, and have made a few bass flies and a few B/G flies. I have not used my bass flies yet but will soon.
Thanks
John
