So, my daughter and I have a little friendly competition for who catches the biggest crappie per trip and then overall.

Now she's only six, so I set the hook for her and hand her the pole so he gets to do the fun part and keeps her interested (that and lots of snacks on the boat).
But anything she reels in - according to her - that's hers and the record belongs to her also.

Well up until a few days ago she had me beat with a 2.05 lb crappie. UNTIL NOW!!! Check out this monster!!

The best part is that after I got home and showed her the fish she's been asking non-stop to go fishing so she can beat my new record. Good times and big fish!!!

Thanks everybody!

Had to throw back my first two eating-sized crappie ever in my life on that same trip because I hit the seven-fish-over-12-inches limit on Lake Darbonne.
It hurt me to watch all that food swim away back in the water.....but I'll do my part to try to keep the fish population healthy.

I was literally cheering with excitement every time I'd pull in a small/medium sized fish because it meant I got to keep it, lol.

I wish Texas would follow suit and use the same limit on some of the bigger impoundments

It would be neat to see TPWD do something for the big crappie.

Thanks tbox! We've already got a trip planned to go out and only hunt for BIG fish out there so I'm sure she'll have me beat in no time!

As far as this new regulation on the >12 inch fish being positive/negative, time will tell. My much bigger concern with Lake Darbonne right now is the Silver Carp that inhabit the downstream water just over the spillway in Bayou Darbonne. I fish that bayou often also and have almost been knocked out of the boat several times by those things jumping and hitting me, and the quality of all game fish in the bayou has gone waaaay down recently. Whenever the carp eventually cross the spillway I'm worried for the whole lake no matter what the size/creel limits are.

I don't see any reason for it on any lake.
