That's not hydrilla. It's coontail.

Yep, 100% not hydrilla. Hydrilla only has 5 (or less) little leaves per petal.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

So hydrilla is invasive and coontail is native?

Correct. They'll both hold bass, but hydrilla for some reason is still king.

Apparently hydrilla will mat up the top, but doesn't fill in the entire water column like coon tail does. Also hydrilla will grow deeper than coontail.

Nice video.

As a guy thats watched "grass" changes over the last 40 years, I can tell you that you REALLLLLYYY dont want eel grass in your lake.
While it only gets a couple feet tall, it will grow in surprisingly deep water if the clarity is good enough. It will choke out Hydrilla, milfoil and coon tail.
The stuff is super wimpy. I think a boat wake will uproot the dang stuff. Once your lake is saturated with dislodged, floating eel grass, you can forget throwing anything with treble hooks.
TVA is working on ways to kill it more effectively than methods currently in use. Fear is that the eel grass "solution" will also kill the other vegetation.

Roberts is LOADED with Coon tail… unfortunately the test sites for aquatic vegetation TPWD has on the lake are Eel Grass.
