Anyone ever fish the Pecos River around the high bridge. Brother wanted me to post this out here. They are goin down in 2 weeks and wanted to know about camping on the river or in a cave somewhere. I told him I would, so any response would be appreciated.

dbones.. they will be in (or near) a National park area so be becareful about camping in the caves. Might be a historic monument or archelogical place. Plus, having been in some of them, they are covered with ashes, dust and god knows what. Best bet is to check with the park headquarters or find a campground somehwere. The bank of the river might be ok...but check to make sure they aren't on private property. I have spent the night in the boat up there before. Gets kinda spooky after dark. HOpe they have a good trip. DO some research.
Catchem early!

I grew up on this river. I was born in Alpine and raised in Sanderson. I would suggest that you head north er(toward the bridge) and camp somewhere on the back on your left. With the way the border is lately I would not suggest camping along the Rio Grande right now. Much safer toward the bridge.

The High bridge is a long ways from the National Park.
PeteDaHeat,
I grew up playing against Sanderson, Ft. Davis, and Marathon and all the other class B schools in the area. Graduated in the late 70's. The Stavely's are relatives of mine from Sanderson.

You don't know an ole reprabait named Charles Stavely do you. Over in Brownwood area now, I work with him on occasion. I think he was a Judge up in the Sanderson area.

My next door neighbor is a BP Agent in that sector.
Shouldn't be a problem as long as you are not on private property. Camping along the lake is common (especially on holiday weekends). If you pack it in, pack it out. Please!
Do not camp in any caves! Most of them are off limits for camping (some for even setting foot into) and the NPS will fine you.
If you're lucky enough to live by the lake...you're lucky enough
