He is lucky to be alive. Why the heck would a person try to make that trip at all, much less in the winter.

lots of reasons that put kayak fishermen in trouble... keep on fishing when weather says stop, they've never seen how fast conditions can change, they overestimate what they are capable of in a kayak, equipment failure, injury, and last but not least... hooked into a big one that dragged him out to sea.. roflmao Been guilty of all of the above... most recently yesterday when that front came through... from calm seas to white caps in 5 minutes. I didn't even try to paddle against it... pulled into back of a cove protected from the wind and waited a half hour for things to calm down. If I'd been in open water when it hit, I'd have gone backwards until I came to the dam a mile away.. Add sea current into the mix and it can get bad even faster.


A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Found this in another article about him:

He then told them he had set out to kayak from Dover to France, but his boat had capsized leaving him the only option of clinging to the floating buoy.

It is not known exactly for how long it had been since he capsized his inflatable kayak.
