Well this was a new one for me. After half a century of fishing, I finally caught a fish with a bare line. No it wasn’t on purpose. I hung up on the bottom and broke the line. I started to reel in, but stopped to take care of a backlash. The line then started pulling, so I started fighting the fish. If you look closely at the picture there is nothing on the line. The line wrapped around the dorsal fin and I was able to land the fish. I am always trying to improve my fishing skills, but now that I am catching fish without a hook I am not sure where I go from here.

I surrender. I have bare hooked a fish and bare handed a few, but never just plain line.

I guess fish roping contest should be next. Congratulations!

Thanks. I have caught gar with a noose and a noose on a fishing rod is a great way to catch lizards and turtles. I am not sure if I will ever catch a fish with no knots and no hook again. But I may have to try.

somehow I missed that one,another incredible fishing method, I'm sure you've got more ideas for next year.

I caught a gar on my bare line once. Don't have any idea how it happened, but he had the line in his mouth, about 4-5' up from the lure...

Never seen one "roped" before though, especially on the dorsal.
