It's probably your rod! A quality jerk bait rod is required for the MB110. I fish a MB 110 a lot and have tried different hooks and everything. It all comes down to the rod. A good JB rod must have a crisp tip and soft mid section. If you are straightening out hooks, your rod is too stiff in the midsection. If it's just fish that get off, might be large crappie tearing the small hook out. Since I went to the MB 110 Orochi, bass stay pinned.

I fish a MB110 year round and have caught my PB on them. The only time I've had my hooks "straighten" is when I was being a bone head and decided to flip a 3 lbr. I throw the 110 on the stock Katsuage hooks, 10 lb line, and on a M Mod or ML rod, drag somewhat loose as you need to "play" the fish with these baits.

Definitely don't boat flip anything over 1.5 lbs.

hooks are really good, if a fish looks at the bait it's going to get one in it. Wicked sharp..

I have to agree with others who have suggested it might be a rod issue. I very rarely lose fish on stock vision 110 hooks. You do have to slow-play them with a medium if not medium light power rod though.

I think in most of these situations; like others have said, it may be the rod and not the hooks. I've fished these style of lures, crankbaits, and top waters for decades and some of the lures I have had for decades still have the original hooks and they'll hold fish as long as they are on the right rod. I have some older rods that are matched to a lot of the lures I throw and work real well and some newer rods I can tie these same lures on that I've got a less than 50/50 chance of getting a fish in the boat. The main thing I've learned; I think it was something I saw Rick Clunn teaching several years ago, is the rod has to be flexible but have enough back bone to keep the line loaded at all times. If the fish gets any slack at all when its shaking its head or leaping on the surface, its gone. It just takes trial and error to learn what rod works best with what lure. Most everything that works the best for any sort of hard bait is going to hover around the medium action range; that being said, rod ratings vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. What one company may consider a medium action may be a medium heavy or medium light action rod with another.
Another piece to this puzzle is making sure you keep the rod fully loaded at all times so the rod can take advantage of what it is designed to do, generally I try to keep the rod grip @ 90 degrees to the line during the battle so the rod is full bowed at all times, if the rod action is wrong they'll still manage to get enough slack in the line to get off.
Also another thing that can help you; and it was a lesson that I picked up from Paul Elias watching him on Basmasters in his early days, is to keep the fish under water as much as you can. I watched him fight fish on hard baits and he'd get down on his knees on the deck of his boat and point the rod straight at the bottom with nothing more than the reel sticking up out of the water to keep them pulled down. It works; yes you'll still have some get off but the percentage lost drops by quite a bit.
One edit here: Another piece to this is line selection. I use mono throwing most hard baits because it it stretches and sort of acts like a spring in helping maintain the load on the fish/lure.

Yes it does, but no where near the amount of stretch mono has...........

and it's less visible and sinks better than mono .

That too, and I watched a video the other day just about this. you can change the depth a lure will run by switching from mono to fluoro or visa versa.

MB hooks are just fine. If you lose a lot of fish it's probably your fault, wrong rod or drag set wrong. Only thing I don't like with MB hooks is the outbarb. I get stuck often and the string trick doesn't work.

Geez $25 dollar lure and it has bad hooks, and I had fished for 50 years and never got a hook in me and yes I am old but the last couple of years I've had two that I buried past the barb and I removed both with the string method. Must be the shaking in my old age that caused me to get hooked, hell I can barely drink a beer without getting some spilled on my shirt lol
