Where do the crappie go this time of year on Ray Bob? Tried a brushpiles to 30 ft and timber in a creek arm with jigs. Nada Was using LS. Plenty of bait but little to no fish in these areas. Water temp was 52.

They go shallow in the creeks or out deep by the dam in 40 plus foot of water

We were out there not too long ago fishing timber on creeks. We could see em but they wouldn't commit. I wonder if the weather fluctuations have had an impact on their activity levels.

not sure what the dam release rate was on sunday but that seems to negatively impact fishing on lewisville. guessing with the rain and dam release, they are transitioning or temporary lock jaw. maybe try further up in the creek arm. you didn't mention bridges, so i would never be too proud to try those as well! also, you mentioned jigs, next time try minnows! https://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/c...orts&report=fish&csrf=mcBVWw4TNH

Current under bridge was strong Sunday. Water was going somewhere. Could not find the fish either have no idea where they went. We found some sand bass at the last minute and ended with 18.

Thanks for the all the responses. Yes, NTX I too have often turned to sandbass to save the day this time of year on Ray Bob. Anthony, I have had limited success fishing the creeks of Ray Bob in the winter. Your creek videos set the bar/expectations high Need to give the bridges and deeper water a try (wind permitting).

I was out on Robert's Sunday. Caught three Crappie on a brush pile in 40 feet of water on a 1/8 Oz. jig. I looked at seven differant piles ranging from 26 - 35 feet and didn't see much of anything on any of them. The one in 40 feet, where I caught the three fish, had what looked like a few Crappie in and around but there was a LOT of baitfish around it. That was the reason I stopped and fished it. It was late and it got dark on me before I could get settled in good. I am new to this winter time Crappie fishing game so I don't really know what I'm doing. I've been reading about you guts catching Crappie in the creeks on jigs under a float in shallow water. I have caught Crappie in the creeks in the Spring on a fly rod. I'm just wondering if I can do the same thing in the winter? I've caught Sandbass in the creeks in early spring with a Clouser Minnow (basically a jig for fly fishing) under a slip cork - this winter Crappie creek fishing sounds like the same thing to me...
