Very cool castman! I saw a school of babies like that at a friends tank one time. They were just cruzing the bank. I went back the next wekend with a small dip net, to catch some and put them in my fish tank. The kids wanted to watch them grow up. Well, they were all gone. Never saw them again. If you can, get a couple and put them in a small goldfish bowl to get better pics. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like baby pollywogs!! If by pollywogs you mean bullheads or mudcats, that's exactly what those are! Hopefully you have a few bass in there that eat those things up.

bullheads = flat tail channel = forked tail
I would net as many of those as possible.

Most folks consider them non-desirable fish. They can get rather large and compete for forage fish. Like any fish, they take up space in your pond that could be used for a more desirable fish. I have 'em too, they are very commnon in Texas. I try to "detain" as many as possible with a net when I see those black clouds. If you watch closely - I usually see bass feeding on the schools of bullheads.

Looks like mudcat to me. They will overtake a pond if you don't have some type of predator. They can be kind of cyclical- some years you will see a lot, other years you won't see or catch any. Don't worry, just about every pond gets them at some point due to runoff and carry in from birds. On the upside, they are fun and easy to catch for kids! We stocked 200 channels 2 years ago, fed them, waited til the fall and tried to catch them. Only to find out we had more mud cats than channels. record so far is 36 mud cats in one night! Very disappointing, but like I said fun for the kids to catch.
