What's a good winter deep water net. Mine bit the dust but never really thought it was to good. Felt like maybe it didn't stay open long enough. Could barely get anything after 23 feet.

Another vote for the big Fitec taped nets.

The tape feature is essential to stop the collapsing as it drops down.

Just note they are VERY heavy and quite the workout both throwing and retrieving. Five throws and I'm toast, but I'm old and fat.

What depth are you guys catching shad at with tape nets right now?

One of my angles when catching bait is to get out early before it gets light. I think it makes a difference when the bait cant see it coming. I can get shad as deep as 35 feet. It is remarkable to me how that taped edge holds that net open all the way to the bottom in that deep of water.

On my home lake, 18-20 foot is the hangout spot.

I guess I need to get out earlier. I have had no confidence catching shad on Lake Texoma for the last month.

The problem that I worry about when going after the bait deeper is snagging my net up and loosing it. I have more experience with the live bait and my cast net in the Gulf. There is some really nice live bait to be had and no trees to snag up in either lol.

I really need to up grade my 21 year old electronics and learn how to perceive what it's showing me and get me a taped net. This custom built net I have has been really great and I have had it for years, it's a big heavy weighted net, you throw it differently or it will wreck you to the point you don't even feel like fishing after you get your bait lol...

My thing has for the most part for my fresh water fishing has been using artifical bait. But here in the last few years I have had some really great time using live bait when I could get it or buy it, which has been somewhat the challenge catching and/or buying...Now my OCD kicks in and nothing Rowdy likes better than any kind of challenge.

So now I have modified my 2 livewells on my boat to make some really great baitwells out of them, this challenge is on. Now one think I have still got to go to TPWD and make sure I can do what I want legal and all. Rowdy is not into stuff that is not legal lol.

I have lost quite a few nets when they have snagged and it sucks. My big taped net has been safe....so far.

I remember fishing with another guy who posts on here who is an expert cast guy. One trip was windy so he decided to launch from a different leeward ramp, so he threw a brand new huge 1.5 pound taped net and first throw it snagged and he was unable to retrieve it. Never been used, a brand spanking new $200 cast net gone. Poof.

He just smiled and said 'oh well'...

Well I picked up a tape net to go along with the other 3 nets I have.

Problem is I just found out yesterday I have to have a second shoulder surgery so I won't be able to use the new one or any of them for months.

Going to have to get my wife trained up on how to throw a net.

Let me know how that works...... And if it does Ill send mine over for training. I wouldn't have the patience or blood clotting ability to endure that.

Man I do understand and know the shoulder issues. I have tore both of mine and it takes forever to heal those, I have leaned a much easier way to throw net too, which is a good thing.

Now the part about the wife throwing my net, yes, mine would throw it alright, just right off the boat, done and over, she is not a fan of my cast net. Now in the summer, my wife loves to help drag a seine, but that is only fair weather with her lol. She is all over getting the bait out of the cast net though, just long as it's fun and fair weather lol...

I got her to help me once drag the seine through these little muddy boggs and grassy creeks a few years ago. There off in the middle of no where. Great place to catch really good bait, I have seine them for years on and off since I was a kid and have always scored bait. Well she had so many chiggers on her, she actually got sick. Heck I always get chiggers all over me doing that, just the price you pay if you want to play.

Needless to say she has never and won't ever help do that again lol. She was so sick and had fever with those little monsters all over her. I have to do that different now. Getting good bait is part of the fun for me, you just sure don't throw your shoulder out going after the bait.

Edit: Thought I better make sure all you guys do not put wife where she gets any chiggers period...
