That depends on the bait and how it is weighted. Different sized hooks could easily affect the action of the bait.

Same size they came with. Feel free to go down a size. Or bigger. The American baits tend to come with 4/0. With some Japanese baits running huge hooks, 6/0 Here's three examples. Pretty much the same sized baits. Three different hook sizes. The Japanese size their hooks differently. I guess metric.

I don't think you mean 4/0 & 6/0....I think you mean size 4 & 6. 4/0 is massive and used in baits like beavers / senkos. The size 4 treble is what is on most crank baits and jerkbaits. The size 6 is the smaller size and used on the 78/80 sized jerkbaits and bladebaits.

Compared to their jerk with the bigger #6. Why and how they choose the size is a mystery to me. But one thing for sure. They enjoy #6 hooks.

As small as 8, as large as 2. Size of the lure and application determines the hook size/style. Usually replace with the same size the lure came with, but I'll use the largest hook I can so long as it doesn't significantly effect action, rate of fouling, or snagging. Suspending jerkbaits are extremely sensitive to hook size changes (or hook thickness) because it effects buoyancy and action. Big topwaters and squarebills, for example, are less effected.

Just bought some of the Berkley treble hooks and put them on a couple of crankbaits, The hooks I put on and took off were 4's. I haven't caught a fish on them yet, so the jury is still out on hoe well they work.

You usually can go on the lure websites and see what hook size are stock. If they don't list them, email them. I did that with Strike king.

I always try to match the size that’s already on the bait to avoid messing up the action. If you go too big the hooks will handcuff. The only hooks I use to are Owner ST-36, 2x Triple grips, and the Aaron Martens finesse trebles.

Me personally I can’t stand the triple grip style hooks. I only replace with Owner stinger’s.
I hate photobucket.
