For deep frying, how long can you keep and recycle the oil? That stuff is expensive, sorta..

You can buy a funnel and filters at BPS that will help you get a lot more uses out of your oil. By filtering, I can use mine 4-5 times. I think two other important things are 1)buy heavy duty peanut oil. Most of those have an additive that keeps it from burning as bad. 2)Don't let the oil get too hot. Once you "burn" your oil it's pretty useless.

Hope this helps.

What SLAB says! And you can get a big container at Sams. Price per quart is less that way.

While I agree withteh above statement, we normally use ours maybe twice, then dispose of it. Key thing is to never burn the oil.....and filter

Try the Cottonseed oil that they sell at Academy. Higher burn temp and last a little longer. I like Peanut oil, but this doesn't burn as easy.

Thanks for the input! Just used some peanut oil for the third time to fry up a pile of filets for the family. Been using the funnel/filter. Roll 'em in Zatahrans corn meal, add some lemon pepper, you can't get this at a restaurant!

I filter my oil with a fine mesh paint strainer purchased at lowes and a two qt tea pitcher (container)with a pouring spout. its cheap and works great. I use a digital thermo. to help prevent oil from burning. once burned and its gone.

if you see smoke you are burning it. Just fried up some crappie with peanut oil using my stove and kept the setting on medium to a hair below medium and it worked great.

What a maroon!

We always fry the potatoes after the fish and they will help tone down the fishy-ness of the oil and store in the Frig. I like peanut oil best. Throw a wooden match to test the temperture. The match will ignite when the oil is at temperture.

You can't catch'em if your hook ain't in the water

it will turn black and smoke big time
we use oil over and over- we do strain through a screened trap but my cooker is electric and cannot get hot anough to burn the oil

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Burnt Oil.
fry at 350-375 degrees.
over 375, watch for:
When frying and the oil starts really smoking, its burnt.
when filtering the oil it is very dark after smoking, and has a strong smell, its burnt.
