I can't believe that 20 lb propane tanks have jumped up so much in price. Going rate around here is right at $60 for an empty tank with some places charging $75-$80. On top of that, the refill prices are all over the map. My local guy charges 90 cents/lb which comes out to $18 to refill my small tanks. I looked yesterday for another backup tank and was surprised at the Lowes, HD and TSC prices compared to a couple of years ago.

Been prowling Craigslist and Marketplace but the used ones are few and far between unless you count the rusted out ones that the meth cookers have used up.

Anyone know of a chain that is still selling any for $50 or less?

Walmart has Propane vending machines out front at many of their stores. 22 for an exchange, and think it was 47-49 for a new tank.

I'll check that out because on their website they are showing $59.99 for a plain tank and $72 for one with a gauge.

The $48 number is what I was used to paying.

If you exchange, be sure to get a relatively new one.
Some refill places will not refill a tank more than twelve years old (there’s a date on the top of the tank)

Most uHaul locations have a refill station at good prices.

We are getting $18 to fill a 20 lb cylinder.
Remember when you get those Blue Rhino or other companies 20 cylinders they are only filled to 15 lbs.
We put the full 20 lbs of gas in them.

I use Godfrey Propane on Division in Arlington. They're about a mile from my house and only charge $15 for a 20 lb refill with a quick drive-thru operation.
