Prior to this year the Colorado Brook Trout record had stood since 1947. It was broken this summer with a 7+ pound fish from Monarch Lake. Lightning has struck again. A new record fish was recently caught.

The fish weighed 8lbs 9 oz. One heck of a brookie. I have fished for them my entire life in CO and the biggest I ever got was a touch over 3 pounds. There is also a report of an 8lb 2 oz brookie that was caught and the guy ate it rather than officially record it and it would have been the record if he had done so. I am really curious to know why CO is suddenly kicking out huge brook trout?

Could be an inverse California thing? Feedback the Brookies little succulent baby bass maybe?

Awesome fish. I never knew Brook trout got over 10 inches. Used to fish them from tiny creeks high up in the Mountains of Southern Utah. A 12 inch one was considered a trophy.

That lake where they were caught I looked that up, what a beautiful spot! I love our lakes here but they dont compare for scenic views to anything up in Colorado.
