bought 3 lithium batteries , my Xi5 ran for 20 seconds , then died . Voltage at plug = 40 volts. Are trolling motors not engineered for lithium ?

Is there a device to limit voltage to 36 ?

I have circuit breakers installed , they were not thrown, I have power at the plug . Motorguide rep says lots of folks running lithium batteries with
no issues .

Did you charge the batteries with an on board charger first? Leaving TM plugged in can fry it.....

batteries are not the issue, 12v is 12v to a tm and 40 volts is within spec for newer models.

that is how I do it too.

mo, check all your ground connections for tight, most of the time, unless something burned up that is what causes the problem.

you might also pull the top cap on the tm and look for burned areas around wires and the circuit board.

I'm off tomorrow , so looks like a trip to LakeSide Trolling motor repair is in my future.

I will update this thread when I get a diagnosis.

A 36v lithium has to charge up to 48v for a full charge, from what I’ve read (might have been 46v). But maybe that’s what got the TM.

Feeling a little embarrassed , replaced circuit breaker , hooked it all back , re-synced remotes and everything now works perfect.

gave it a good workout last Thursday
