Why is health insurance an annual thing.
I think annual insurance changes and open enrollment are a couple of the most frustrating parts of the insurance scam.
Why can't I get a 3 or 5 year warranty on my health?
I despise health insurance.

Things change. Pharmaceuticals especially. And especially Medicare. Changes sometimes are cheaper but most of the time, not. If done over multiple years, the insurance company would probably charge more to cover risk. But I agree, it is a pain to go thru all of the advertisements. I just leave mine the same and move on.

Phone calls, emails, regular mail, TV ads. "Call now for NEW IMPROVED Medicare coverage". What a load of BS. People end up falling for some "Advantage" plan from Joe Shmoe and have to wait 3 years to see a cardiologist. Buyer beware.

Medicare Advantage Plans are great...as long as you just go to the doctor twice a year for routine checkups. If you get really sick, well, you're just screwed.

My company has been with blue cross blue shield for the 10 years I've been with them. We are changing to Aetna starting next year, let the fun begin.

I need to sit down and get it done. I have a medication with a stupidly high copay that must be covered. I just haven’t had the mental fortitude to tackle that hornets nest yet.

Monday. I swear I’ll log into my desktop and tear into it.

They are exactly the same plan. There is no competition and they are all getting rich.
One of the the reason insurance companies "lose" money they have 45,000 employees. Why does an insurance company need that kind of overhead?
Get down to the proper size and pay my doctor's tab.

It's because they want to show you yearly how bad you're getting screwed.

Prices up, coverage down, grab your ankles.

Doctor and hospital rates never go down and insurance is to cover those bills. Remember what you buy insurance for.

Open enrollment is to give you the opportunity to change your coverage. I suspect your company is like mine and if you don't do anything your current coverage will roll over at whatever the new rate the insurance company charges. So, if you don't want to enroll, just continue with your current coverage.

They change plans or providers every year. You also have to decide how much to put in the flex or savings account.
Why can I not change coverage anytime.

All it takes is 1 lifetime event to make all of your premiums worth it.

If one never has such a lifetime event, they should be thankful for the good health.

Insurance only sounds expensive until the day you need it and you don't have it.
