Greetings and Salutations. Moved to the San Antonio Area in January from North Texas. Been busy with work and have just recently been exploring the creeks and rivers around San Antonio. Haven't been really impressed with the San Antonio River and have been scouting out the Guadalupe River recently. As a duck hunter, I know better than to ask for specific spots. That said, can anyone point me in the right direction as far as baits and techniques for crappie and Sand Bass? I am going to hit the Guadalupe River around the Canyon Lake Area. Any advice and guidance is most appreciated.

For crappie in this area you will have a lot better results in a boat. I bank fish a lot in the San Antonio and surrounding area. I target the sunfish (Bluegill) I have caught only a few crappie from the bank over the years and they are few and far between. I have caught crappie in the Cibolo Creek, Santa Clara Creek, Plum Creek, and the Guadalupe River. I caught all the crappie while fishing for the sunfish. I was using worms. I was fishing by overhanging tree limbs and sunken timber. Caught most during the late summer and fall. Good luck. Hope you can find some.

Moved to San Antonio two and a half years ago from The Woodlands. Fished almost daily there and it's really good. Of the 70+ public ponds, a good twenty are really good and hold 5+ pounders. Here in SA, I have been very disappointed, to the point of not even trying without a boat. Caught a few on the Southside on the SA River, even joined a club and did get to fish on Choke Canyon with some success. I don't know man. Most folks seem to go for the redfish and cats at Calaveras and Braunig.

Your main problem will be bank access!
Public access is few and far between unless it's around a public ramp.
I would recommend Boat Ramp #11 above Canyon Lake, fishing from a kayak!

I would suggest getting a kayak. Boerne lake is a fun lake if you learn how fish it. No motorized boats either.
