I am starting to pick up some nice channel catfish in about 10 feet of water. I have been sorting through lots of small catfish, but there are a few nice ones showing up.

I call it a carp slayer minnow. Very simple deer or elk hair fly tied on a Mustad live bait hook. You can see the fly on the top of the catfish’s mouth. Here are some variations. They are not pretty, but they do catch fish.

Exactly. A very short small muddler minnow. My carp slayer fly is like a muddler minnow head. It works pretty good on carp.

The catfish bite has slowed with my fly rod, but after hours of trying, I landed a nice channel catfish. roflmao

That big boy was funny. It didn’t fight very hard at first. I did get a little excited and more serious when the tip of the tail popped out of the water about 3 feet from where the fly line entered the water. roflmao I have been blessed to be able to catch some really nice fish, but there are some that still get the heart going pretty good.
