I'm tired of dealing with ice to keep my food, drinks and fish cold!!! So I've been looking at coolers/freezers that plug in to use in my vehicle, boat and camper.

There are a lot of options, sizes, etc....please let me know if you have any experiences, suggestions or advice on what would be good.

The good ones run 700 to a grand. Also remember to start your car on a regular basis. They will drain a battery if left plugged in overnight.

the cooling can only go 20* cooler than ambient temp.

I used one on the semi for a few yrs. then got a regular fridge type, I would not store any perishable food in one for more than a few hrs. max.

the one I had was a koolatron brand.

I use an Alpicool fridge/freezer cooler. You can get them on Amazon starting at like $200. These aren't the old school "20* cooler than ambient" ones- they are 12 volt compressor driven and can go down below zero.

You can set the temp you want- usually about 38 for cooler / 0 for freezer. You can also set it to shut off at certain battery voltages to protect the battery from total discharge. I tested mine by leaving it running in my truck for 2 days and it kept cool the whole time and the truck still started- so they don't use too much juice. Plus it cools off quick- in like 20 minutes it's in the 30's.

I love mine for my work truck- I can keep drinks and sandwiches in there for a couple days and not have to waste money buying lunch or worrying about ice melting.

Convenience , cold drinks without the mess ! I like that . Think I'll continue to use frozen water bottles for now !

I used to have a small one that plugged into cigarette lighter. I only used it while driving from place to place and it worked good. Hmmmmm... now that you've brought back this memory, I now wonder whatever happened to that old cooler.

I have one that I will part with and it has the 110 inverter or 12 volt. It works great and never failed to keep things frozen or just cold. $200. I will have to dig it out of the shop to give you the brand name so you can look it up if interested.
