Hey everyone, I recently picked up a new baitcaster I want to use for inshore. Targeting slots reds, flounders, and speckles on artificials. I went with 7'6 13 Fishing Fate Green Inshore Rod (FTGS76M) with a 13 Orgin TX. After getting the rod I am concerned with the rod and the ability to through soft plastics and hard baits (mirrodine, heddon spooks, moonwalkers). The rod has the specs of 1/8 to 3/8 oz and is a Medium Fast ... does anyone have experience with this rod by chance.

Should work fine. I use a similar rod for topwaters, softer action for plastics, but that's personal choices.

good point Pat, it is personal choice. that rod sounds like it will work depending on how you retrieve(ie work baits). 7'6" might be a little soft for some of your bigger topwaters, but again it depends on what action your wanting out of them. personally I do not like carrying two rods while wading, or being limited to what I can throw on a particular wade. I use a Laguna Redfish Special, 6'9" line weight 8-17 lure weight 3/8-3/4. It sounds heavy but I can throw 1/8oz jigheads, small softdines, big topwater and fatboys. the reason i like a stouter rod is the slighted rod tip movement twitches any bait. So my arm and wrist are sore after a day of fishing. Like Pat said it is all personal choice, I would suggest using different lengths and lure weight rods before settling on one. I know that can sound expensive, but some rod builders will let you test a few before picking one.

Shorter rod is better for top water. Just throw whatever rod you like. It doesn’t matter what the other guy likes. Best around rod I have is a Waterloo HP2.I think it’s 6”9”. I can throw pretty much all the 30# Suffix Braid that can be put on a Shimano Curado or SLX DC with 1/4 Oz jig head unless it’s into the wind. Best rods for the money are Falcon Clearwater.

Action such as fast tip makes a bunch of difference in length of cast.

Nothing but Shimano reels for me but only certain models and certain suffix letters. The Curado I was junk but the Curado K is solid.

A lot of the time when two guys are side by side and throwing the exact same bait and one guy can throw farther they always talk about the reel. Lots of time it’s the rod or even the line. Most of the time its tthe combination of everything.

True. The tuned rod and reel, with the correct lure weight. Will cast like a dream.

Think of it as similar to a recurve in traditional archery. Limb poundage and length(Rod length, weight and action), Draw length dealing with the deflection of the limbs as they load up( the bend the rod tip makes as the weight of the lure loads the pole), Arrow weight(lure weight). To include the bow string. For which are several types with some being lighter in weight.


There's a sweet spot on the lure weight and line, in relation to the rod power and action.
