I will like the 5 biggest fish format. Too me it is about catching the biggest five. These guys are good enough to go out and catch fish, but it only takes one angler running up on the lucky spot where you could throw a tin can out there and they would eat it. Then it is all over for the other guys, it is a 1 and 2 pound feast. I’ve done it myself in a tournament and you have if you have fished them long enough. I sat in one spot for over three hours and hauled in close to 50 bass. The problem was in all those fish, my biggest five weighed in around the 10-11 pounds which was not going to be good enough to win much less cash a check. I had to move and search out bigger fish which turned out by memory here wasn’t good enough because I only brought around 14 pounds to the weigh in. Not only do you have to catch fish, you have to catch big fish, that is a two tier aspect which I like.

Mark Jones said on this website that everyone would be fishing that format sooner than later. Now nobody is fishing that format. But he’s here laying out that fact. Lol, I'm pretty sure what I said was that catch weigh release was the future and that we would see weigh ins no longer be necessary but if you're saying I'm wrong I can assure you this won't be the first time I am or the last time. I am flattered by the fact that you pay that much attention to what I say. It's cute. Well in either case history shows you’re incorrect!

So here’s what I see, it’s the end of the year and MLF needs to be able to show sponsors that folks are watching their failing program. So what better way to get those stats up in a hurry, Go out and start a rumor, then let it build, shortly after that get everyone fired up by letting them guess what’s coming. Then drop the announcement they are going to do a poll this is to engage the masses. Let the dust settle then bring on the huge announcement of a change in format. This gives the marketing teams numbers they can ride with for a few good sessions. Again if everything was great nothing would have changed. Like someone said it worked, there’s 6 pages of discussion.
Here’s what I see as a huge problem with their 5 fish plot. First they are going to have volunteers, NOT employed judges, someone said that fans will jump at the opportunity, they are probably right there is some people who like doing things for free, MLF started out with volunteers, then they had to eventually start compensating them. The second thing is the scales are not full proof, I heard they have 2 sets of scales in each boat, that screams confidence right there. In fact how many times did they weigh Bobby Lanes fish before it came up with the winning weight? Just saying if they want to do it right dust off the weigh in trailer. James Watson said it best they should have done a test run before throwing everything out and starting this.

So who’s gonna win now? My bet is the old guys still don’t win. Winners: The bass who get released healthy and the weekenders who fish for them Losers: The belly sinker manufacturing companies

So who’s gonna win now? My bet is the old guys still don’t win. This ain't about the "old guys" this is about a failed format... The lonely housewives could care less about all the dinks they catch. They want the big one... Dan

This change came because there was going to be a mass exodus of anglers . And still might very well be several abandon the fairy tale MLF

This one I just got the popcorn going, I'd watch it either way. I'm more into how they are catching them than what they are catching. Learning for sure.

Opens are stacked and packed, NPFL is out there but with little to no meaningful coverage and MILF/ FLW just axed their open level series... And with the economy in a recession it makes it even tighter... Best to sit tight and ride it out... Dan
