I know it is early but I want to get some flukes and be ready for winter striper fishing. What flukes do you all recommend (size, color, ect.) and where do you get them? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I prefer the split tails. I believe these mock threadfin better than paddletails. And a hungry fish can't resist a threadfin. I get them in all three sizes. Don't forget to get some dippin dye as well.

Depends on what your deadsticking for. For Sand Bass I use the small fluke. This requires a special hook That has a shorter shank. If the stripers are eating small thread fin the I use the same setup. Phillip can get you fixed up with shorter shank jig heads. For striper most days I use white, white with tail dipped chart die, Ice, Ice with tail dipped. 4-5 inches long. Braid for main line with some floro attached with an f&g knot or barrel swivel.

Alright guys. Answered the bait question, but what about your set ups? Rod holders? Drifting slowing or complete still.
Educate us on dead sticking.

I've got a number of setups ready to try. I always use 30 lb braid to a swivel. From there I will use 12-20 lb fluoro. Most of the time I will rig a double hook set up with a 1 oz. on bottom and a quarter just up a bit.
I try and get on the spaghetti. From there feeding usually happens 10-20 ft down for the larger fish. You can go deeper but usually it's the smaller fish. I usually target 38-42 feet of water. I try to keep the line as vertical as I can in the water.
All that being said, I'm looking for 55 degree water before the deadstick bite really starts.

Oh and I'll usually put a big 1-2 oz. spoon in the rodholder. Caught some of my biggest fish by letting them catch themselves.

Thanks for the information. I use zoom or RSR flukes in bubblegum, chartreuse and shad colors. I dip the tails in pink or chartreuse and I use trailer hooks on each one.

The ball tail shad that glows looks and sounds impressive. Any idea behind the ball tail , behavior or other wise in the water ??

I have used Zoom super flukes forever. Chartreus pearl, bubble gum and white ice are what I use. Would not go without 1 rigged up w the pink. Some days that pink will outfish any color!

Pink flukes on a yellow jig head.
I invented this combo about 6 years ago and call it pink lemonade
