Private prisons are a rotten idea from top to bottom. I can think of few worse ideas than financially incentivizing the incarceration of people.

Layering that incentive with forced labor is a terrible idea.

Just to quickly add something to this, I was listening to commentary about delisting marijuana from the schedule 1 narcotics list.

Some dude was vehemently against it, basically asserting that we'd have a breakdown of society if that were to happen. This guy's qualifications to give such an opinion? He was the CEO of some prison company.

This is a huge industry worth a couple hundred billion dollars. They have bigtime lobbyists and would prefer that just about anything be considered a legal transgression worthy of incarceration .

Anyway, sorry for the sidetrack and getting off topic.

Fully agree with both of you here.

cheers

In addition to working to pay their "rent" they should be required (=forced) to produce their own food. No work, no doing the farmer/gardener bit, no eat.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

I have no sympathy for any criminal. If they do the crime, they should do literally hard time.

They should make a prisoners life so difficult, that if ever released, they would never want to come back again.

Otherwise known as the “real world”.
