I’ve been following a situation here in Nac where a woman took her husbands older Tacoma into Grease Monkey Auto for an oil change. She paid and started home and the truck started making noises. It seems they forgot to put oil in it. Now the problem is, the cost of putting a new motor in the truck is more than the value of the truck. The man wants his truck fixed and it seems Grease Monkey wants to pay him the lower value of the truck. Now we have lawyers involved. I just don’t see how this happened.

They forgot to put oil in my nephews Honda CRV, lucky he had always used synthetic and didn't burn up the motor. He drove about 15 miles on the highway before he had to pull over

Simple case of negligence. Shouldn't matter value of truck. Surprisingly this stuff happens more than you think.. To me the argument should be more about replacement with new vs used motor .

With that kind of screw-up, you do whatever the customer wants that is within reason and you do it quickly with a smile. Replacing the motor is not unreasonable. Instead, they try and penny-pinch, and tons of people will find out they can't even do the most basic functions of their jobs. The bad PR is going to cost them a whole lot more than the extra 2 grand or whatever the motor is over the vehicle value.

Doubt they could get a new engine out of it, even with a lawyer. Depending on the age of the truck/engine. Might be able to get them to drop in a used/rebuilt one. If insurance companies get involved they will go for the cheapest option, With lawyers, corporate sometimes goes higher to make the story go away.

Been awhile since I used an oil change place. Had one once leave the dip stick out. I went to check the oil level when I got home and saw it was missing. Called them immediately and they tried to say they didn't lose it. If I remember right, all I got out them was coupons for 1 free oil change and a couple for 25% off out of the deal.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I change the oil in my Tundra and my daughters Lexus SUV. I had enough problems with dealership doing free changes to never trust anyone else to do it.

I haven't changed my own oil in 20 plus years, to easy and conveient to have the dealership or some oil change/car wash place to do it.

Ridiculous, if the customer says jump they should say “how high” to keep this from getting blasted on every review site, Facebook page, and anything else. If I were them I’d threaten to take it to the local news too. I change my own oil for this reason, way cheaper and I have quality control, if something gets screwed up (hard to imagine screwing up an oil change) I have only myself to blame.

A few months ago I took my 2020 Silverado to get an oil change and rotation at Austin Automotive "Specialists" in Round Rock. When I drove out and onto the 35 access road all hell broke loose and my rear driver side wheel detached from truck almost completely. I pulled over and realized the lug nuts were not put back on the wheel. I called the shop and they sent a tow truck over along with the manager and the lube specialist who performed the work. This kid had a real attitude and would not look me in the eye and never said a word. I ended up having to go back 4 times before the lights went off and the wheel lock was added. Also, they scratched the new rim and did not think I would notice. Had to go back for the 2nd new rim as well. I had used them for years and after switching shops I question i they were even changing the oil-oil in wifes car was very dark. I will never trust them with a vehicle again.
