I was working a hump and could only see the bass in forward mode if I turned the contrast above 23 . I could see them clearly in down mode , Is it normal have to turn the contrast all the way up on forward mode ????

I leave mine on auto. Doesn’t really make much difference on mine.

Steve I do also however, I was viewing the typical crappie tree full off crappie and small fish symbols etc. And noticed two young guns circling the hump we were fishing and casting every so often and catching fish during the lake fork tournament . I talked to them at the end off the tournament and they told me that the bottom was full off roaming bass right at the bottom, I told them I could not see them and they assured me they were there , to turn up the gain or on my lowrance the-contrast and I did Bam to my surprise I could see bass clearly chasing bait fish tails waging and all on what appeared to be a vacant play grounds three days in a row ,this was big news to me , overwhelming really I I thought I am pretty good with this unit but I am not at all using its capability.

The very best way to get most out of AT is turn off any filters like noise rejection off and turn your contrast all the way up and tap down on the line to lower it till you can live with the image. That threshold is different for everyone. The more you can live with the more you will see, same for 2d sonar. I run mine at 90 - 95 in manual then switch to auto let it ride. if you think you have too much noise turn off all Sonar and Structure Scan as in stop sonar. Set a configurable button short and long to accomplish both.

Go to pages/Setting/System/Quick Keys
select your button fill in the long and short with Pause Sonar and Pause Structure Scan on the same button. This does not stop AT sonar only 2D and SS
