If I had paying customers, I would definitely error on the side of caution and get them -- especially if the customers aren't experienced in jig fishing. For personal trips, however, I haven't had minnows on my boat since I took my parents out last October. I've fished 3 times in the last 7 days and I've caught a total of 80 fish. Other than Sunday morning right after the 'cold' front) the fish have been very aggressive. Even on the day they were slower, I still managed a limit in under 3 hours. They are still liking downsized jigs (1/32 oz hair jigs) on my lake, however.
Anyway, I'm sure you are much more experienced than I -- just letting you know how fish are reacting on my lake with water temps around 80 degrees.

So customers as in of my NAPA Fleet store , I am certainly no guide. I scouted some fish yesterday on Lavon and found numbers on a jig but very skiddish and hard to catch w jig,

You often don't feel the bite but just the tension. What I did with my Mom last year was use a slip bobber with beads because she had only ever fished with minnows and a zebco, so that's what I gave her. When we got to each spot I would set it up at the right depth for the pile we were fishing and then hand it over to her. With this rig, she was able to catch fish on minnows while my Dad and I jig fished.

I would always have minnows in the boat this time of year. Especially with it heating back up. On my last few guided trips, they have certainly made a different. I agree with Ron, Most of the time with a minnow, the bite is super soft/non existent. All you will feel is weight or lack of weight. That is the number one thing that clients struggle with. I am watching the line 100% of the time and alot of times have to mention that there is a fish on there and they pick up and are like oh there is. That soft bite is hard to pick up.

Also, I have never used a minnow do they hit them fairly convincingly ? Like you know there is a fish on ? It really depends on the day and the fish. Sometimes they hit them like a runaway train. Other days they just suck them in and the rod gets "heavy". Just depends on the bite.

Iโd rather catch them on a jig, but always have minnows when itโs tough

There are still some of us that are 100 per cent minnows.
