We're a family of 4 kids are 13 and 15. Looking to do a mixture of fishing. Maybe fish Espiritu Santu , Matagorda and sometimes the Jetties. I have owned a couple of older V hull bay boats but most of my bay fishing has been out of a kayak.

Anyway, we are going to start keeping an RV in Seadrift and start fishing alot more so I figured a good boat is in order. I'm looking at used boats with low hours. I'm thinking something along the lines of a Blue wave with a tunnel but wanted to see what other insight y'all might have. I would like to get a boat that is all composite vs. Having wood in the hull.

Anyway, for those of you who fish the area if you were in my situation what would be your thoughts?

It’s a little complicated because San Antonio bay is full of oyster reefs that can really scar up a fiberglass rig. And crossing over to get to south shore or back lakes can get pretty choppy. Then getting in and out can test any shallow running hull.

Anything that runs that decent will make the poc jetties off limits except for exceptional days.

Pick what you want the most and let the rest compromise.

I run a welded aluminum scooter with a jet. I compromise on rough water to have more access to the back lakes and can go bash oyster reefs without any worry.

Blue wave makes a decent boat. Three of my friends have them. As far as composite vs wood I have a Majek Extreme. They all mention “l wouldn’t buy a wood boat”. One of them had a deck issue in the first year. The other beat the stringers out of the boat and they are scrapping the hill. Most of that damage was not being strapped down in the back when on the trailer and thinking it was tough as a tank. My Majek….zero issues.

You can destroy any boat if you try hard enough.

Thank you both for the advice. I came to the realization today that I just have to have a boat that will run and drift shallow. I guess as a result of my kayak fishing experiences that's what I'm pretty decent at doing and have good success with. So I think I will be keeping an eye out for a good Aluminum tunnel hull boat. For the meantime we'll be kayak fishing. I've only fished the Port O Connor area twice so Pat I may hit you up for some pointers. We should have our Travel trailer set up in another month or so.

Yeah, come get you some, redfish have been stupid easy the past few weeks.

There was a dude with a Scandy White tunnel for sale, don't remember if it was here or on Dos Frio, but those are the very top of the list if you can find one. Boatright, and empire are also very desired hulls. Your tracker, alumicraft, express, etc are ok, but they're not lifetime built hulls like the first three.

Just remember, simple is better, if it's not on your boat, you can't break it.

There really is no one boat that can do the jetties, and then go Port O skinny. That is just the plain truth, and with family in tow, a safety factor makes that even more true. EVERYONE needs three boats - is out common reply! Sure, anyone can do the Jetties with zero wind, but how often does that happen. Yes, the locations you refer to are getting deeper (consistently), but ... happiness comes in threes!
