When fishing for whites, hybrids, striper or anything---I usually will free line live bait. Here is my question---Any sugestions on hooks to keep them from tossing the hook. I recently started using Gamakatsu wide gap and Octopus hooks. It has helped some.
I have been suggested to use a treble but I think it might impair the free swim of the bait.

Pipe in--any opinions.

I usually use a circle hook when freelining. Match the hook size to the bait you're using. I look for the lightest wire hook I can find. I found some real light wire Owners at Sportsmans Warehouse that I'm looking forward to trying if the lake level ever goes down.

Let them swim with it for about a 10 count and just pull the line tight. If you hammer them on the hookset you'll pull it out. Once hooked with a circle they rarely come undone.
