So I went out for first time yesterday morning from 7am to 11:30 with new 30 amp lithium battery hooked to my livescope box and fishfinder. Everything was great. As far as I could see I had plenty of voltage the whole time. Running between 12 and 13 volts the whole time. Problem was around 11:30 the unit just shut off and could not get it to come back on . I know the battery was fine so has anyone else had this issue? The black box was off and the fishfinder too. I went ahead and charged the battery even though I am sure that couldn't be the problem. Went out around 2am this morning and rehooked it back up and unit turned on. When all this happened I touched everything and nothing really felt hot. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? By the way when I pull everything up to drive to another part of the lake I leave my unit on. Would this cause issues? Reason I ask is I have been having problems with the orientation.

Maybe you need to run a bigger wire from the battery to the depth finder , does it go off when you start your big motor ?

Worked fine after charging the battery, that should tell you the problem.

Sounds like it overheated

Always shut down your livescope unit when out of the water . The transducer will not function properly and will break down.

I run my livescope and a 106sv with a dedicated 30Ah lithium as well. I connect the battery when I get to the lake and disconnect when I leave. I leave it on when running between spots as well. If I am going to run more than a couple minutes I will just turn the transducer off with the graph, and thats just so it doesnt get hot while its out of the water. I usually make 4 or 5 trips to the lake (fishing about 4 hours or so each time) before I charge it again. It has never shut off on me. I would guess you just didnt have much of a charge.

I am running 10 gauge wire straight in front of boat to fishfinder, box and battery which is like 5' away. It is a brand new battery and I think if it was low it wouldn't be showing between 12 and 13 volts the whole time. I will be back out on monday and will try turning unit off between spots. Thanks for everyone's input. Problem I have is I have been out with fishing guides who stay out all day and don't have this problem.

It sounds like you the battery might not have been fully charged when you started fishing. Lithium has a higher voltage than lead acid when fully charged. If you started the day at 13.0V, you were only at ~ 30% capacity.

I agree with D Miner. My thought is that you're not getting a full charge on your Amped 30. When you *think* the battery is fully charged, it should show significantly more than 13.0V on the display. Your charger is likely to blame (not the battery). When you charge your battery, check for a flashing light or a quick transition from red to green. It is much more likely that you have a defective charger than a battery relative to the issue you described here. Contact Amped, they'll likely send you a replacement charger.

Are you using a charger designed for lithium? If not, that may be your problem. They need about 14.3 vdc to charger and once rested you should be reading 13.4 vdc. A conventional charger will not supply enough volts and won't fully charge it.

Well what happened was I ordered the battery off ebay new. I didn't charge it because it was new and used it on my first trip. It is A 12v 30 amp lithiom battery. The charger is a 10 amp lithium charger designed for this battery. When I brought the battery home and charged it, it took like 4 or 5 hours to get the green light that it was fully charged. I really hope you guys are right. I was thinking I should get several 4 to 5 hour trips before would need to charge the battery. Find out monday.

Set your voltage alarm on your fishfinder to 11.5Volts. This will give you an audible alarm and a message that voltage is low before it shuts unit down on low voltage, I always disable my sensor when moving using my outboard and put the fishfinder in sleep mode. It is not good to have transducer pinging when out of the water.

A lithium battery will still have 12.0 volts when it gets under 10% and if it has any half decent BMS it will shut off between 5-10% to protect the cells.

What are your alls thoughts on leaving the charger on your lithium battery constantly when not fishing?

I purchased a 12.8v 18ah Lithium from Amped Outdoors for my active Target setup & when it`s not being used it`s on the Charger that came with it. I`ve had no problems so i`m thinking you should be ok,
