I have done this before and its fun. I would suggest planning partially where you want fish based on wind direction and traffic of boats and people. I.e. a swim beach would not be a good place or a place where lots of boats are constantly passing through. I try to stay out of everyone's way with those. Once you have found spots that are not in high traffic areas I would look for what you usually would look for. Bait, fish, structure, cover.

I would take my 4 or 5 jugs out several hundred yards from the bank and deploy them so that they would blow back to where I launched from. Then I would go to the bank and get some rods out from shore. If a jug starts getting hit I reel in and jump in the yak and go see whats up. Never left jugs unattended and dont like that people do. Fish get lost like that and wasted... jugs get lost and become just trash at best or at worst indiscriminate killer trash.

Make sure to read up on the rules and do it all legal like. Big thing there being sure they are properly tagged. I like bluegill heads for bait on those or big gizzard heads. The little sandies and what not will peck away smaller softer baits.

Its like fishing for bluegill as a kid but with giant bobbers. And when one goes down you get to go "hand to hand" with a big ole blue cat or gar from a small assed kayak!?!? Its a hoot!

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

When I lived there, used to run them from the Oak Point ramp, mainly north of it. Less boat traffic in that area.
