Its been a fun week, seeing a little cooler water temps with passing rain showers. Wade fishing to sight casting fish were really aggressive on their bites.

Wading we fished a variety of structure from shell flats to sand pockets. The trout on the shell were explosive on topwaters and suspended baits during the early morning hours. Once the day started heating up they were found closer to the bottom with DSL’s soft plastics.

The sand pockets which were just knee deep held a lot of redfish, but did manage to spot a few nice trout sliding through the grass. I think if our timing on these flats was better we might have had the chance to hook up with these better trout.

The sight casting scene was a lot of fun too. Not knowing whether the sun would be out for us all day, we opted not to take the tower. Instead we threw topwaters and gold spoons down the knee deep marsh banks. Had a few singles float up in front of us. Acting quickly we were able to tease them by slowly dragging the topwaters in front of them. Mid-day on a deeper shoreline we met a school of oversized head on. Managing 6-8 fish out of them before they scattered. All our trout and most of the reds were released to fight another day.

Looking forward to see what next week will hold with the big rains coming and higher tides. These rains are definitely help lower the salinity levels, bring in cooler water temps, and promote grass growth. This time of year is always interesting to watch the changes unfold week to week.
