What is the best wood to use for bunk replacements? Treated? Still using carpet? Any new ideas? Thanks.

There are all kinds of synthetic replacements and synthetic wraps but I prefer treated wood covered with carpet.

From past experience. Do not use treated wood. The acid in the wood will corrode even the galvanized lag bolts. Best option is synthetic or reg. wood treated with Thompson Water Seal, then carpet.

I put these on a 2008 tracker TX170 boat...https://www.ultimatebunkboards.com/

Great, looks good.....The Problem with these, if you unhook chain before you actually over water....BOAT comes off so fast..you unhook, boats is coming off the trailer no matter what.

So far they have been great, and bolts have not moved after several thousand miles....

If you're going to replace everything look into Gatorbak bunk covers. I had a set I bought back in 2018 that I never put on. This week I decided to do it so I unwrapped all the bunk material and found out the outside bunks covers were short. I got a hold of them and they replaced the whole order with the new XP material they're using now and all I had to do was pay shipping. I think that's great customer service... Give them a shot... Just replaced the boards on our 18.5 boat. After researching as to what kind of wood to use, I went with white pine and NOT treated lumber. Used stainless steel staples (no glue). In my case with my boat I used 2 x 4's. Thats the size of boards that was on the trailer.

On another note...have used Thompson water sealer for out deck (1st year). Last year we used BEHR....BEHR is holding up better than the Thompson sealer did. Would higher recommend BEHR....more expensive but it holds up better than Thompson.

I agree about Thompsons. I have lifted both my boats with a hoist in a live oak and a tractor bucket on the other end and done the bunks myself. Its a little bit of work but not too bad! 17 foot Express and 22 foot Hydrasport CC.

don't use Thompson's , use a penetrating epoxy ( 2 parts mixed together ) --- apply two coats , then carpet . The epoxy will get into the wood at different rates ---so pay attention when applying the second coat and make sure your getting good coverage
100% guarantee no issues with water

I just bought treated 2x6`s, stainless steel lag screws, carpet and carpet glue. Going to glue and staple with SS staples. The only thing that failed on my 26 year old trailer was the screws rusted out. The wood was still in good shape and not rot at all. It was built with stainless steel lag screws.
