Man that fish looks to be in perfect shape and color. You should be really thrilled with it... That shad is a really good bait in the parts of Texas I have fished. Like them live, but they are really hard to keep lively. Cut works good and I have always loved the head piece the best.

I have made some mods to my live wells, making them bait tanks basically, I very rarely keep anything but if I do I would still have the other tank for it. But I have been really wanting to see if these changes I made will help keep the shad lively any longer/better.

I have never fished Waco, looks like a nice lake at this point. What a dandy...

It was on a 10" shad cut in half using the head. I prefer the head as well. Waco's blues have been getting better in size since they put a slot on them, lake record is 84lbs. 52" some monsters in that lake.
