I was wondering if y'all like the Mr crappie combos from Wal-Mart or not ? Are they good for the price?

I've tried the rods before and find them not stiff enough for my liking...

So back in '07ish I picked up a couple of the slab shakers for night fishing in the boat. They were combined with the reel with the lock so you could set the exact depth you got a bite, and drop back down again to the same depth. The reels were nice, but found the rod itself lacked much of a backbone for boat flipping.

Its a good price point imo if that's your budget, but you may not like the rod due to its whipyness. I still have mine, but haven't used them in years.
Alot of better combos out there for $20 or so more.

They are as cheaply made as humanly possible. And in my opinion it's some of the worst line out there. It's must have been different back in the day, because I loved that line. Good combo for a kid to use in a pond or dock but if you are serious about crappie fishing get something a little better.

I have 3 of the Dock Shooter spinning combos. I got them half price on clearance otherwise I probably would not have bought them.

The rod:
Think they are either 4'-6" or 5' two piece. In my opinion they are too stiff for standard weight jigs. The top part of the rod would rotate after a few fish so I put epoxy on them to make them one piece rods. I now use the rods for heavier road runners and inline spinners and they work great for that.

The reel:
Its a functional reel and reasonably smooth for the price. The part I could not stand was always having to reset the drag on it. Not sure why it loosens up over time but it does. Its not uncommon for me to have to reset it half a dozen times a day. The reels rarely get used anymore because of this.

I would say for the price they are probably as good as you will get. If you dont Crappie fish very often then you will probably be happy. If Crappie are your target fish every time you go fishing than you will probably want to upgrade at some point.

Hands down my favorite short rod is the Shakespeare Micro Series 4'-6". Its around $20 now but when I bought them they were $14 at Walmart. I have rods that are 10X that price but my favorite is the little Shakespeare. Put a small Pfluger President reel on it and you have one heck of a Crappie rig for around $80. I honestly have not found a better set up for Crappie and creek Sandbass than that little combo there.

I caught 100s on the WM combo. No problem with them for the 💰💰. Once you buy an ACC rod you will throw all your WM stuff in the trash. So if I had to do it all over I would not waste my money on the WM stuff. My Academy just had the green Lews spinning reels for $20 add that to a 8ft or 11 ft ACC and you will not regret it. I landed a 16lb flathead on my 11ft. They are tough and sensitive.
