I'm sorry but I must disagree with reporters statement of "boat was not properly secured to the trailer". That seems to be a violent crash and just wonder if any amount of securing would have prevented the boat from detaching from the trailer.

Yep, that boat was going somewhere when the truck and trailer abruptly stopped.

Had a ski boat&trailer come loose from the ball on the hwy @55mph. The boat&trailer came up beside me on the right shoulder and I drove along with it to keep it to the right and off the hwy. It veered further right and went through a field and the trailer hit a mesquite tree dead center on the tongue. It stopped the trailer and the boat went flying as the winch tore through the bottom of the boat. As if that wasn't enough carnage, the boat then hit a power pole guy line cable in mid-air and split the boat in half right up to the motor. I was 20, first boat I owned and had it for 6 weeks, never trusted those crappy hitches again and always had safety chains after that.
