I agree with Douglas, but it is still a format that I enjoy watching over the elites and any other bag format.
Whether it is a 1 Lb or 2 Lb or 3 Lb minimum based on the body of water it is still the best on TV or the internet.

This is just what happens when you give the anglers a vote. They are going to protect their position at the top at all costs. MLF still has the biggest names in the sport but at some point their product will get stale if they don't bring in new talent. With that said it is likely that either Poche or Birdge will qualify for the elites this year. Maybe both. Not sure how that fits into the MLF equation. How that fits in with Lebrun, Crane and Hunter maybe declining invites is they only have to cut one or maybe none current BPT guys.

Douglas gave a great description of it by saying it is a "reality show." It is simply a business just like all pro sports are. However, it seems like other pro sports leagues and circuits seem to put a lot more into the sport side of it than BPT. I think by creating the BPT the established anglers with demanding sponsors found their way of keeping their sponsors happy and continuing to be somewhat competitive in their pro circuit. I think a fair number of the older established guys that helped form BPT saw the end of their competitive fishing days coming in BASS because of a combination of time they have to spend for sponsors, declining physical endurance, and the learning curve of new electronics.

I haven’t flowed the BPT much. Looking at the Roster they still have a pretty solid bunch with a few mixed in that really aren’t very competitive. They started out with not putting out invitations to a few of the best while some pretty mediocre ones got invites. Some of the better ones have joined since.. it’s a pretty solid group. I looked at the money list. I thought it was a little higher than it is.
Both BASS and BPT have a few on their roster than shouldn’t qualify because they are consistently in the bottom 10% or so. That’s always been the case. BASS has been more aggressive in the last few years cutting a few. Not sure how the BPT is as I don’t really follow it.
It will be interesting what BASS does to Fritts. Results show he isn’t competitive.

I stopped following "pro" fishing a while ago. I have a lifetime membership to BASS and maybe a year or two left with MILF. The MILF magazine is nothing but an advertisement catalog... BASS still has fishing how to articles and BASS Times still covers the tournaments so I'll keep that one also... Dan

So their claim that,
"Per Major League Fishing rules, 10 of the 80 invitations to fish the Bass Pro Tour will be made available annually to anglers who qualify up from the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit."
Is completely bogus............... Not really bogus. To qualify up from the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit, you must finish in the top ten of the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit. If the top ten did not include any current BPT anglers. There would be ten invites. If the top ten of the TWPC were all current BPT anglers, there would be no new invitations. The only way in if you are not in the top ten, is if they are short of 80 after going thru all the calculations and invites. Clear as mud I am sure.

There is a reality that when formed the BPT was a bunch of 45 year old plus guys no longer performing the way they once did at BASS. Now is that to say all their anglers were like that ? No , but if a person looks honestly, many of them were well past their prime. The current qualifying rules, are simply to continue to protect guys past their prime and prevent new blood from coming in. As one user pointed out, it is simply a made for tv production no different than The Real Housewives of insert city here.
