Personally, I would get them their own rods and fill it with big game and have your own. I don't mind sharing mine but only if they know what they are doing. I still have my wife on a spinning rod and just like me when I started out it is one rod for all techniques.

I like 10lb. for deep crankbaits. You lose some but it gets them down where you can get bit.

I know it’s not ideal but does anyone use 10lb mono for deep cranking? Or even 8lb?


10 pound mono for general use, square bill, jerk bait etc., and go to 12 pound for deep diving cranks. Never had problem and I get my crankbait 2 to 3 fish deeper than by fish buddy who uses 17.
