I am ok with it. If they are that dumb they probably shouldn’t have a firearm in the first place. In a way they get a better chance at practicing natural selection. Removing their self from the gene pool by not being able to protect their own life .

I bet they didn’t take in one “automatic” even though the article claims they did.

So the one guy says he lives in a neighborhood where crime is horrible and criminals are shooting all the time, and his solution is to unilaterally disarm himself.

Okay.

I'd setup across the street and offer them $10 more than what they were offered...why not.

Jones keeps his gun in the garage? He doesn't deserve a gun!

If it's a stolen gun and they're offering more than you paid for it, why wouldn't you sell it back???... Dan

You can't buy back something you have never owned.

Let's assume a criminal has in his possession a gun used in a serious crime. He doesn't want to be caught with it. Why not sell it back, no questions asked. He now has no connection to the gun or the crime through the gun. He has money in his pocket. Now he is free to go steal another and repeat the process. I must admit one of the craziest "solutions" I've ever heard of to end "gun violence"

This just paved the way for people to come steal your guns and turn them in to the government, no questions asked.

Or, some enterprising person could make thousands of dollars off of this stupid offer.

Great opportunity for stolen guns to be sold with no risk of getting caught. Way to go Houston.

Thanks, Billy

Crooks get far more for functional firearms on the street than what they were paying. They published their bounties ahead of the event, which IIRC ranged from $50 up to $200 for “automatic” firearms. The money spent for the 845 firearms they say they collected would have been better spent prosecuting and incarcerating the numerous violent criminals Houston keeps releasing back into society, reinforcing the notion that there are no bad consequences for criminal conduct. This was just another “ feel good” political show for some ineffective, soft on crime officials. Buybacks in other cities have purchased a lot of nonfunctioning firearms that were incapable of firing. Crooks with decent quality, functional firearms aren’t selling them to the police for far less than they would get on the street.
