Has anyone fished little bay in rockport in a kayak and is the fishing good there or should i try somewhere else? Would croaker and mullet work in this area? Also i will be heading there the beginning of august. Thanks

The only place I've fished near Rockport was Estes flats many years ago. Beautiful area and would highly recommend it for trout and redfish. Lots of grass back then, don't have any idea what its like now. Plenty of places to hide from wind on out a ways. Put in at Palm Harbor RV park kayak launch. Let us know how it goes wherever you decide to go. cheers

The fishing in Little has improved since they add the oyster reef/structure a few years back. Fish early because it's a popular ski basin for well, skiers, tubers and jetskiing when it gets later in the day.

Estes Flats is a good option as well, especially if it's not too windy. There's a $5 parking fee which you'll pay (in cash) at the main office when you get there or when you leave if the office is closed. Offload the kayak by the water and park in the designated grass area about 100-150 yards away. Boat traffic can get bad on weekends as well. I prefer to paddle all the way across and fish Traylor islands and the various cuts.

Anywhere along 361 between Aransas Pass and ferry to Port Aransas is a good option. I like South Bay and LHL, which I think have been producing recently.

OK, I'm going off topic and I apologize.

Woah, old school name drop here. I think that was 2004 and at that point I hadn't started fishing kayak tournaments............but I was in my boat. I was piercing through waves that day, just monster rollers where I was ducking behind my center console to protect myself as the waves were breaking over me.

Edit: Weather Data from the day. When the front hit winds went from SE around 10/15 knots to due North 35/45 knots. Air temp dropped from 77 to 64 degrees in less than an hour.

I figured if anyone would have access to that information.. it would be you. cheers Can't remember all the numbers but I think there were well over 100 kayakers scattered, hunkered down, and all but blown away that day Everyone had a story. Read em on TKF for weeks. Met a lot of really nice folks on that trip. Flew down that way from Florida to fish it after meeting all the Texas guys that drove down to Florida at earlier tournaments. Those guys were and still are the best of the best in my mind. You should do a 20 year reunion on that date... maybe some of those folks would start posting again.

I didn't even stop by the weigh in... heard the tent got blown away... I was suffering from hypothermia and just wanted a hot shower... hid under my rental kayak, tarpon 120 from slowrides on spoil island until I was so cold I couldn't think straight. Very lucky that day, decided to make a mad dash for marina with wind still howling when I couldn't take any longer.

Almost dumped kayak right at the start as I had to move a little perpendicular to the wind where I launched..had all my rods laid flat on deck.. Was going so fast so quick I couldn't paddle fast enough and ended up only be able to control kayak with blades out of water like sail.

Right now the Kayakers are doing great early morning by launching at Rattlesnake Point and heading to the left, or South along the marshes. There are a lot of Reds with their backs out of the water. Also, the bowl on the NW side of the Holiday Beach Bridge is holding a bunch of trout and reds. A regular skinny water boat has to stay 100-150 yards from shoreline so they're not really hitting the area right now, but the Yaks can get right in there. You can lauch at or near the boat ramp but be careful crossing the bay along the bridge. There's a few spots closer the the bowl but you have to know where to park and have to move the Yak some distance to the water. Last recommendation, go in on 188 at the Redfish Camp ramp ($5). If you go under the bridge there are a ton of black drum hitting dead shrimp in 2-3 feet of water. If you turn right from the canal at the bridge and stay along the shoreline, trout have been good in pockets with the right cover. There are many of them before the old pier post near the Port Bay Yak launch.

That's the kind of fishing report that will make a guy drive a long ways to fish! roflmao
