What kind of jack do y’all carry to jack up your boat trailers in the event of a flat? I just got to change a blown out trailer tire on the side of HWY 6 and realized the jack that came with my truck is not adequate. Too tall to get under the axle but too short to get the tire off the ground when put under the side of the trailer realmad

Do y’all just use the factory vehicle jack or carry something special?

I use a factory Toyota Tundra jack and a SnapOn 1/2” 18volt impact. In the impacts bag I keep a 1/2” 3” extension and a “flip socket” that fits the truck and trailer. Also a 24” breaker bar in case the SnapOn doesn’t have the torque to break loose the lug nuts.

My Tacoma jack died about a year after I bought my truck new in '05. I found a Toyota scissor jack from some unknown model on E-Bay and I use that for my truck and it will get short enough to get under my trailer axle or springs. My boat and trailer together don't weigh over 1,000 lbs, which makes it an easy task. My trailer lugs and truck lugs are different sizes, so I carry an old, rusty 4-way lug wrench. Scissor jacks can get really short, so I could carry it under my truck seat, if I wished. IslandJim

I carry a floor jack in the bed, with 33s factory jack is not tall enough for the truck, I keep a couple of blocks of 4x4 so once I lift the trailer by the frame I can get under the axle.

they make a roll back jack that lifts the axle, never used one but they look like they would work.

Get one of those drive on jacks/lift that RV'rs use. They come in yellow and black . These work for dual axle trailers. "Trailer Aid Tire Changing Ramp" Maybe $45.00. thumbEBAY. I have one.

I’ll look into the tire ramp, the other options look good as well, but lots to keep up with. It should get it high enough to at least get under an axle with the factory jack.

I was actually headed to Discount Tire to get 3 new tires mounted on my trailer when this happened. Had bent axles from the factory and the trailer company put new axles on the trailer and gave me 3 new tires to replace the ones chewed up. The tires they put on the trailer originally and gave me as replacements were Rainer ST tires. I was sitting in the tire shop waiting on my turn and did an internet search on them and it appears they are a terrible tire with lots of issues, especially on RV’s.

I decided against putting the cheap Chinese replacement tires on the boat trailer and left with a new set all the way around of Goodyear Endurance tires. I had Goodyears on my last boat trailer and not a problem one.

Thanks for all of the recommendations.

If you have one near - harbor freight sells a low profile floor jack that works great - only couple of inches tall at the business end. Just one note - you have to use it under the axle if you try to use it on the trailer frame at least on mine it won't lift high enough to clear the tire when you try to put the spare on.

I made a drive on ramp style by layering some 2x6s. I’ve used it a few times and it works great. Easy to throw in the bed of the truck, and have a hole in it to hang on the garage wall when not traveling. Plus being 2x6 material it doesn’t seem to attract much attention from people looking to steal something out of the back of my truck bed.
